Whitley Bay is an ideal location to explore both Newcastle Upon Tyne and the wider North Tyneside, South Northumberland region. You have easy access to the best beaches in England, shopping at the Metro Centre and exploration of thousands of years of history all located within 50 miles of the town.
Whitley Bay was made famous by a domed amusement park called Spanish City which was constructed in the 1920s. Due to the thriving nightlife and entertainment scene plus beach location it became a major seaside holiday town. The amusement park is long gone, but the beaches are as good as ever. The Tyneside Metro transit system extends to Whitley Bay allowing easy access to Newcastle City or the world famous Metro Centre Shopping Complex.
